Christmas at Applewood is intended for those folks who wish to experience and create a family memory. We are much more than a Christmas Tree Farm. If your objective is to spend some quality time with your family and friends, enjoying a truly unique and memorable experience in the country, then Applewood Farm is the place for you.
2011 will celebrate our 36th Christmas at the farm and our 34th year selling trees. January, 2009, marked a new beginning at the farm, with our son, Bryce, taking over management of operations.
In appreciation to our customers for their loyalty and support and due to the tough economic times, we are all facing, there will be NO Admission charge to the farm during the Christmas season this year.
Applewood Farm has been known far and wide for its Reindeer herd and the programs that Farmer Brian presented to visitors and school children about these wonderful and entertaining animals.
During 2008 we lost 2 reindeer to a tick born illness which left our bull, Spruce and 1 female, Millie. During the winter of 2009 Spruce died due to old age and declining health. Millie went to a good home. The result is that, regrettably, Applewood Farm no longer has a reindeer contingent for your enjoyment.
Our log barn is famous locally for its extensive display of lights and beautiful greens which adorn every nook and cranny! Guests are treated to a Christmas wonderland while they browse among the model train displays, Santa's Workshop and a selection of Christmas ornaments, holly, and greens.
The Applewood Express is a narrow gauge 1870's vintage steam train that will carry our guests on a scenic 3/4 mile tour of the lower meadow area of Applewood Farm. This Herschell S-24 "Iron Horse" locomotive is a classic antique.
Ride the Applewood Express for $3.00; Free to kids under 3 yrs (must be accompanied by an adult).
Santa and Mrs. Santa will visit the farm on only one Sunday, date and time to be determined.
Hay wagons will be running continuously through the fields of Christmas trees, allowing families easy access as they choose and harvest their own fresh, fragrant Applewood Farm Christmas Tree.We also offer a selection of just-cut Fraser Fir trees, which are grown in Harford County and delivered weekly so you are assured of their freshness.
After you cut your tree (saws are available on loan) and we measure and tag it in the field, we will haul it back to the barn for baling (free of charge), drilling* ($2.00) and shaking* ($2.00). All while you leisurely return to the barn by hay wagon or walking and have time to browse in the Christmas shop and the Reindeer Antler Room.
